Due to the sensitive nature of the research being conducted in ECSL, the laboratory operates under
a technology control plan overseen by the Virginia Tech Office of Export Control and
Secure Research Compliance (OESRC) to ensure that all operations comply with the
International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Publication restrictions are often
in place on projects to protect sensitive research and data. Access to ECSL is strictly
limited to US citizens only and all personnel and students are required to receive regular ITAR training.
